30 years of Perspectix: Digital twins for sales and retail

Since 1996, Perspectix AG in Zurich has been continuously realizing its vision of making sales and trading processes more efficient, secure, and successful with digital twins. Over the past 30 years, the company has demonstrated continuity and scalability.

Perspectix was founded in 1996 as a spin-off from the University of Zurich with the aim of developing a 3D product configurator for modular technical product systems. In close partnership with furniture manufacturer USM, a platform was created for global, multi-level sales organizations.

P'X Industry Solution

In many customer projects, the product configurator was expanded into the P'X Industry Solution: 3D visualization in the installation space, interactive configuration of complex products with rule-based product logic and technical calculations, and clear communication between all parties involved continue to characterize the CPQ solution to this day.  Despite ongoing functional expansion, product logic, data, and 3D models have remained consistent. It is precisely this stability that is a key prerequisite for successful scaling. This is achieved in several dimensions:

  • The current P'X Industry Solution is used in 45 industrial sectors for over 100,000 digital products.
  • Leading companies use them at around 15,000 workstations in over 40 countries worldwide.
  • With the current version 14, multiple teams can work together on digital twins of huge facilities in the context of BIM building data.

A consistent web strategy opens up new presentation and sales opportunities for customers on the Internet without compromising data security.

P'X Retail Solution

Starting with the configuration of shopfitting and furnishing systems, Perspectix developed a comprehensive solution for retail management in 2008 with the participation of the Dolma Group. In 2011, the Retail Solution was introduced as collaborative business software for chain stores. Centralized store management, store construction and furnishing planning, assortment planning, and merchandising result in digital store twins that make all processes and coordination more efficient for everyone involved. Users such as Migros, Rewe, and Hornbach report on their successes with the software. 5,000 users worldwide generate around 3,000 planograms per day – 9,000 stores are managed and renovated with the help of digital twins. A web-based store communicator improves communication with real stores.

Programmed for the future

Since 2022, Perspectix has been accompanied on its journey into the future by AUCTUS as a shareholder with a specialized buy-and-build strategy. Since 1996, the company's development has followed a clear path: a stable foundation of product logic, parametric design, and 3D is being gradually expanded in areas where customers derive real benefits. Three topics will be in the spotlight in the coming years:

  • The digital configuration twin is supplemented by an AI companion that relieves users of time-consuming routine tasks.
  • To further advance plant design (CAP&E), the digital product twin is being expanded into a system twin.
  • Cloud operation is offered to customers as an option with clear statements about where data is processed, how models are used, and how security is ensured.

"The core of our product logic, 3D models, and process thinking have remained stable, while the scope, industry diversity, internationalization, and application depth of our solutions have increased," says André Kälin, Managing Director of Perspectix. "Our vision combines digital twins with artificial intelligence."
